Ministries

Death is an unfortunate truth that every human being will eventually face.  It is during these difficult times in life that a person truly needs the support and love of their family.  As a church, we have a responsibility to be there for our members and our member’s families during their time of bereavement.  The Bible states in I Corinthians 14:40, “But all things must be done properly and in an orderly manner.” Therefore, in the unfortunate event of the death of a member of Calvary or the death of a member’s  immediate family,  this Ministry will provide care, concern, and support. The Bereavment, Care & Concern Ministry is lead by Sister Dorothy Rodgers.

The Christian Education Ministry led by Rev. Everett Swansey oversees all the ministries of Calvary Baptist Church of Glenwood. Christian Education is the Disciple-making ministry of the Church. The goal to evangelize, establish, and equip believers in Jesus Christ is a universal mandate, however the church must engage in Christian Education in a manner that is relevant to its culture, but at the same time faithful to the biblical revelation of Scripture. The Word of God must always be the focal point for everything that takes place in the body of Christ.

The College Ministry, under the leadership of Sis. Tamasha Williams, focuses on ministering to our members who are in college because we understand the importance of being anchored in the Word of God, especially when students are far away from home. The ministry has established prayer partners who communicate with the students regularly and also send care packages and tapes of the worship services to the college students.

The Deacon’s Ministry, under the leadership of Deacon Charles Bowen, assists the Pastor with the care of the church membership. They look after the widows and orphans of the church, as well as help the congregation to support the Pastor’s vision. They also provide spiritual leadership in the ministries of the Church.

Lead by Sister Leonia Townsend the purpose of the Greeter’s Ministry is to receive those guests who attend our church services in a hospitable and cordial manner, remembering that the first impression is a lasting impression. A letter is mailed to each visitor the following week after their visit

The Health & Fitness Ministry, under the leadership of Bro. Ernest (Coach) Ford, is a ministry that promotes, advises and encourages the health and fitness of the members of Calvary Baptist Church of Glenwood, and the surrounding community, through fitness programs such as aerobic classes, walking teams and camping trips. The ministry is organizing competitive teams to participate in recreational leagues such as basketball, softball and volleyball teams.

The Men’s Ministry, under the leadership of Deacon Donald Howard, leads the campaign to enlist men for participation within the ministry. The ministry provides a weekly bible study every Monday night for the development of the men in the areas of priest and leader within the home, evangelizing and discipleship of other men, and the total support of the Pastor and his vision in the Church and advancement of the Kingdom of God.

The Music Ministry, under the leadership of Sis. Beverly Holton, is responsible for all the music rendered at Calvary Baptist Church of Glenwood. This includes both youth and adult choirs, as well as assisting the Pastor in planning all services of worship, and arranging and providing music for weddings, funerals, special programs and other related programs of the church.

The Prison Ministry under the leadership of Brother Ronnie D. Warren strives to positively influence the lives of prisoners, their family, and the community such that Jesus Christ’s grace and truth is manifested in their lives.  The Prison Ministry gives spiritual support, direction, and provides referral information to persons affected by incarceration in the areas of treatment, housing, legal services, health, and employment.

The Trustee Ministry, under the leadership of Trustee Deric Wilkins, works under the leadership of the Pastor to ensure that the real and personal property, and financial resources of the church are properly cared for. They also seek to promote the spiritual growth of the membership and support the vision of the Pastor.

The Usher’s Ministry, under the leadership of Bro. Charles Reed, greets the members of the congregation and the guests both before and after services. The ministry assists individuals entering the sanctuary to a seat, distributes church bulletins, and assists in receiving offerings. They also help to maintain order during the worship services.

The Women’s Ministry, under the leadership of Sis. LaCresha Herring, leads the campaign to enlist women for participation within the ministry, and provides mentoring and wise counsel for the young women of the church. Remaining true to the vision of the church, this ministry provides structure and biblical teaching that encourages and enhances the lives of the women of Calvary through bi-monthly meetings, and yearly seminars and retreats.

The Youth Ministry (Warriors For Christ), under the leadership of Rev. Benjamin Chambers, believes in challenging the youth in the Church to develop a deeper relationship with Jesus Christ. The ministry has developed an outreach program in the community to reach other youths. Wednesday nights they have an exciting bible study, known as “The Movement” that is real, relevant and relational. Included in the youth ministry are the Praise Dance Ministry, the Mime Ministry and the Puppet Ministry which ministers not only on second Sunday, but all over the city as well.
